A mal-union is caused when a bone is fractured and does not heal in the correct position.  This results in a deformity, which can affect functionality and motion at the joint.  By superimposing a CT scan of the injured bone onto one of the contralateral uninjured bone, engineers can mathematically calculate the degree and location of the deformity.  Using 3D printed jigs, Mr Ecker can perform a precise and accurate osteotomy to restore normal anatomy of the bone.
